Secure Journeys intends to offer remuneration and entitlements in line with the current Enterprise Agreement (EA) or for those positions not covered by the EA in line or above market rates.
The following information details the qualifications we require to undertake specific roles. If you don’t have the qualification mentioned for the role you are interested in, or you have a lower-level qualification (Certificate II) but you have relevant experience, we would still encourage you to apply.
Operations roles will require a Certificate Level III in Security Operations or equivalent:
- Detention Service Officer
- Detention Service Manager
- Intelligence Officer
- Risk Officer
Secure Journeys would consider the following qualification(s) as equivalent:
- Certificate III in Correctional Practice
- Certificate III in Immigration Detention Operations
Operations Managers (Facility and Transport & Escort) will require, at a minimum:
- Certificate Level IV in security Operations or Technical Security, or equivalent
- Five (5) years’ experience in managing security
Welfare Officers, Programs & Activities Supervisors, Programs & Activities Officers will require:
- Certificate Level III in Security Operations or equivalent (desirable)
- An appropriate qualification in their relevant discipline (e.g., Certificate III in Social Science/Human disciplines such as Community Work, sports and recreation or learning and development)
Gym Officers will require:
- Certificate Level III in Security Operations or equivalent (desirable)
- Certificate III in gymnasium management or equivalent
- Current Membership of Fitness Australia or affiliated body
For people working towards these qualifications, Secure Journeys will consider applicants on a case-by-case basis.
The primary Operational Structure will be as follows:
Centre Manager or Deputy Centre Manager
Operations Manager
Detention Service Manager
Detention Service Officer
NOTE – this is a high-level overview only. Roles and numbers will depend on size of the Centre. Some roles may report into National Managers.
Current Emergency Response Team (now called IRT) will be classified and employed as Detention Service Manager and Detention Service Officers with enhanced skill sets, subject to successful employment applications.
Secure Journeys have uniform standards, covering personal appearance and special requirements
All staff will be required to wear a uniform.
The operation of the centre is 24/7. For most operational roles, shift types will be 12-hour day and night shifts, Monday to Sunday.
Shifts will be in accordance with the operational requirements of the Centre and scheduled on a rotating roster.
Required work hours will vary between roles. More specific details will be advised during the recruitment process.
Secure Journeys will be offering Permanent Full Time and Casual employment in the following:
• Detention Support Worker
• Detention Service Officer
• Detention Service Manager
• All other role types excluding cleaning, catering, and facilities

Secure Journeys is developing annual training plans for each Centre which will meet mandatory requirements and development opportunities for staff. Secure Journeys will utilise MTC’s registered training organisation, Training & Safety Solutions to deliver training for our people.
Secure Journeys will have IRT (like the current ERT) and Escort / Aviation Teams. Secure Journeys will recognise current training / competency in these areas.

Your commencement date will be in line with the centre ‘go live’ dates. These dates are currently indicative and may change.
If there is a change to your starting date, Secure Journeys will keep you informed every step of the way.
There is no “transmission of business”.
With regard to your entitlements please contact Serco directly.
Your continuous employment within the Immigration Detention Network will be used to calculate ongoing Long Service Leave entitlements. You will need to prove your employment with previous provider(s) for length-of-service to be recognised.
